Looking in the bottle

London-based artist Matthew Pang marks his arrival in New York at Ulrik, from March 15th to May 2nd, 2026. His oil paintings marry technical virtuosity with unsettling visions: human faces appear trapped within glass containers, like specimens of our own anxieties. This surreal aesthetic subverts the codes of traditional portraiture to give form to the feeling of confinement, both physical and mental.
