Merryn Omotayo Alaka and Sam Frésquez: Your Birth is My Birth

In 2026, Merryn Omotayo Alaka and Sam Frésquez present an immersive installation at the Jane Lombard Gallery, stemming from their series ‘Hairland’. These two artists, trained at Arizona State University, explore the deep connections between identity, heritage, and the body through monumental sculptures made from Kanekalon Hair, a synthetic material. The exhibition, ‘Your Birth is My Birth’, unfolds a speculative ecosystem, evoking an evolution based on this material, transforming the gallery into a kind of ‘Kanekalon forest’. Alaka and Frésquez are interested in cultural signals and personal and collective stories, creating organic and suspended works that extend across the floor. This first exhibition within the gallery is a unique opportunity to observe their innovative artistic approach. The presentation is free and extends from May 1st to June 26th, 2026.
