Rita Ackermann. The Chemical Alphabet - Hauser & Wirth
In 1994, Rita Ackermann made her debut in New York with her first exhibition at Andrea Rosen. Today, the artist explores an entirely new vocabulary: the letters of a Semitic alphabet. The exhibition “The Chemical Alphabet” presents a series of paintings where each symbol serves as an anchor for the composition. Ackermann uses chalkboard paint in acrylic, creating vibrant and richly layered works that reference historical and cultural references. The artist draws inspiration from Hebrew, Arabic, and Syrian alphabets, thus exploring the connections between writing and visual representation. The exhibition is a dive into a universe where language and art meet, revealing abstract forms with deep roots. The work is presented by Hauser & Wirth, and fits within an artistic approach that explores the foundations of communication through image.
