The Genesis Facade Commission: Liu Wei

Liu Wei appropriates the famous niches of the façade of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to install monumental sculptures designed specifically for this iconic location. Starting September 17, 2026, the Beijing-based artist challenges the codes of classical architecture by integrating bold geometric shapes and various materials directly onto the exterior walls of the institution. This artistic intervention questions urban growth and the structure of our modern cities at the very heart of the city. By radically transforming the building's face until June 8, 2027, these works offer a striking confrontation between historical heritage and a radical contemporary vision. It is a rare opportunity to contemplate art dialoguing with the urban landscape, directly from the sidewalk of Fifth Avenue.
