In 1825, Louis Braille invented the writing that opened a world to those who couldn't see. In November 2026, the National Institute for Young Blind will exhibit for the first time its previously unpublished photographic collection, the result of two centuries of history. This unique archive explores the link between the invention of writing and the emergence of photography, questioning the perspectives on visual impairment through institutional images, portraits of life, and scenes of everyday life. Photographs dating from the 19th century to more contemporary works reveal a fascinating evolution in the representation of blind and visually impaired people. It fits within the bicentenary of photography and the PhotoSaintGermain festival, offering an original look at the history of the institution and its role in the development of education for young blind children. The exhibition is free and constitutes a rare opportunity to admire these valuable documents.
