School of Paris, Collection Marek Roefler

In 1925, critic André Warnod coined a term to describe a very specific story: that of artists from all over the world who made Paris their workshop and playground. At the Musée de Montmartre, the Marek Roefler collection brings this cosmopolitan effervescence back to life, born first on the Butte before spreading to the Montparnasse studios. Expatriate painters, interrupted trajectories, studio friendships and freedom-filled Parisian lives compose a vibrant portrait of a capital where one came as much to learn to paint as to learn to live. Between October 17, 2025, and February 15, 2026, the exhibition offers an intimate encounter with these often overlooked artists who nonetheless marked the history of modern art and gave Paris a new face.
