In 1990, Valérie John established her studio-work on Martinique, marking the beginning of an intimate exploration of indigo and its multiple meanings. From this anchor, the exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo offers an immersion into the assemblages of papers, textiles, and objects that compose her universe. The artist weaves connections between Martiniquan and West African identities, using the color indigo – a symbol of water, mourning, and transatlantic memory – as a vector for cultural transmission. Her works, ranging from the darkest tones to deep black, invite reflection on the past and forms of knowledge. The exhibition is a sensory and intellectual journey, exploring the relationship between art, memory, and otherness. A poignant plunge into history and culture through emotionally charged materials. Admission costs between €9 and €13.
