In 1955, Kerry James Marshall began his career in Alabama, and then transformed contemporary art. The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris now presents the first French exhibition dedicated to this major artist, who has devoted his works to exploring black figures in Western history. Seventy artworks, including eight previously unseen paintings created specifically for this occasion, are brought together. Marshall uses monumental compositions to give central prominence to Black people, challenging traditional narratives. This exhibition, born from a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Arts and the Kunsthaus Zürich, is a unique opportunity to discover or rediscover the work of an essential 20th-century artist. Admission is free.
