In 1985, Kerry James Marshall painted his first monumental work, “The Collector,” thus affirming his commitment to representing the lives of African Americans with unprecedented precision and dignity. The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris now hosts the first French exhibition dedicated to this major artist. Seventy works are gathered, including eight previously unseen paintings created specifically for the occasion. Marshall, born in Alabama, has devoted his career to dismantling stereotypes and giving a voice to marginalized communities in art history. The exhibition, initiated by the Royal Academy of Arts and the Kunsthaus Zürich, highlights his powerful narrative approach and audacious compositions. A unique opportunity to appreciate the work of an artist who transformed our perception of portraiture and history. Free admission.
