The Queens of the Wood: a photograph exhibition by Françoise Evenou

In 2026, the Marguerite Durand Library (BMD) will host a striking photographic series: “The Queens of the Wood.” Françoise Evenou spent 18 months listening to migrant women, transgender individuals, from Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia who found refuge in the Bois de Boulogne after having been confronted with prostitution. These portraits captivate by their strength and dignity, revealing paths marked by suffering but also a profound resilience. The exhibition highlights the stories of women such as Gina, whose poignant gaze questions our judgment. Through arresting images and sound recordings, Evenou explores identity, alterity, and the consequences of exclusion. A moving work that invites reflection and respect for human diversity.
