Department Store Art Workshops

In 1925, Paris was asserting itself as the world capital of modernity during the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts. To celebrate this centenary, the Bibliothèque Forney is highlighting a bold aesthetic revolution: the birth of creation workshops at the heart of Parisian department stores. Mythical signatures such as Primavera, Pomone, La Maîtrise or Studium Louvre transformed everyday life by offering furniture and art objects accessible to all. These design laboratories, integrated into Printemps or Galeries Lafayette, made elegance and avant-garde accessible to the masses. This historical journey retraces an epic where excellence craftsmanship met mass commerce to redefine French living art.
